We're living and learning in here! Here is a list of things we are learning. We're learning:
- how little sleep we can get and still function
- exactly which contingency items are necessary at the changing table, and that pee can go REALLY far when unleashed
- that the five "S"s are impossible to punctuate but absolutely dead USEFUL
- that it's really hard to go to the store with a baby. really hard. I've never been less tempted to browse in the Target in my LIFE (Jon says hooray for the new shopping!)
- that you sometimes have to just trust the baby and let go of your plans for how things should go.
I'm trying to make the next week or so my training for not just keeping Miles alive and clean and fed but for functioning Out in the World. I will learn to use hooter-hiders, and not feel like an idiot SuperDog with my cape on backwards. I will not panic when Miles cries, for real, like he means it (he's only JUST begun doing this). I will learn to remove and replace the carseat in the base. I will learn to operate the Moby Wrap so my baby doesn't fall out or sink to the ground. I will learn to use Gdiapers so they don't leak. I will learn what I do and don't need in the diaper bag. I will also learn to forgive myself when I don't yet have all this down after one week.
Cheers!! Have a look!
- Look at Miles' big-boy belly button!!! The cord is gone, my friends
- Miles was reunited with his Grandparents Grunert this week
- He has been MUCH more alert these days... and much more hungry. He lives to eat. I live to... sit on the couch and facilitate this. It's a growth spurt, it'll pass. I hope.
- Miles' dimples making a rare appearance in a blurry shot. He has two! Just like his Grandpa Jim!
- This kid was screaming a moment ago. HOORAY for the five S-es!
I do not think I would have survived the first 2 months without the 5 Ss. Well, at least 4 of them; putting him on his stomach made him ANGRY. We only just stopped swaddling Ben a couple weeks ago, and we still play wight noise while he sleeps. The growth spurt will pass, but then another will come. We had a few bad ones where Ben was always either hungry or tired and always always crying (or so it seemed), but those passed too, and now it doesn't really happen anymore (watch, I said that, and now he'll be hungry every 5 minutes tomorrow).
ReplyDeleteThe other thing we learned about sleep is that while you can function on very little, everything is easier when you're rested (which, of course, you probably won't be for a while, but once you can be, it makes all the difference in the world).
Hmm, this comment was supposed to be encouraging, but it may have just come off as scary. Sorry. We would like to come down and see you guys soon, if that's OK. I will call tomorrow to that effect.
wow, love the dimples! good work catching them (or 1 anyway) on camera.
ReplyDeleteyour baby boy is so beautiful!!! don't forget to add "enjoy baby" on your list of to-dos! also, i didn't do a lot of that stuff for many more weeks alone... so don't push yourself too hard love. (and i still haven't grocery shopped solo )
Don't push yourselves! This is the time to soak it all in & BE. Just enjoy BEing a Mommy for the first time. You're doing great. No need for added pressure & expectations.
ReplyDeleteHe's gorgeous & growing, so you must be doing a pretty great job!
