Before you laugh at me, imagine a night in which the sun never goes down. It might be fun in some sense, but it would throw off one's internal clock and would feel profoundly unnatural and wrong. And what would be the sense of a dawn in which the sun doesn't have to rise? This is how I would experience a spring which did not follow an actual winter. Dazed and weary.
Fortunately, the snow began falling on cue on Sunday morning and did not stop until sometime in the wee hours of this morning! What a relief! I began taking pictures when it first started, as I was skeptical that it would really amount to much.
...Look what a few hours did!
Miles was hilarious (in reterospect). I was getting over a nasty flu (spent Saturday night in a delirious fever-haze), so I reluctantly stayed inside. But I absolutely insisted that Miles get out and enjoy our probable ONLY snow of the season. Well, he fought us for 45 minutes (NO SNOW SUIT! NO SNOW BOOTS! JUST FROG BOOTS! NOOOO SOOOCKS!!! NOOOOO) and finally collapsed, fully though improperly dressed for snow, in front of the screen door. We let him fuss it out and then he gradually, gradually ceased his tantruming and became so intrigued with Jon's progress at shoveling that he just suddenly walked out the door and joined him.
Miles spent around an hour outside and he LOVED it. Guess he's my kid after all.
We even let the cat out for a bit to snuffle around.
Miles was delighted by the cat tracks.
He made his first snowball! Just like "Peter fum A-Snowy Day!"
Here's my snowy boy. He never did, and probably never will, wear his size 2T snow pants. Or his winter boots, size six. Neither will probably fit next year. Silly twit.
Snow continued to fall through the night and made Tech's campus greeting-card glorious.
It was melting fast, but still clinging on for dear life to every surface.
Just a LITTLE bit of the Blue Ridges; all that my workday brings into view.
(Oh, and yes, we still had classes, no delays, no cancellations. That's how VT rolls).
I was so hoping that the gargoyles would be snow-capped... I was not disappointed.
How is Winter supposed to be dreary, again?
I got my fix. Thank you, God and nature. Spring can come next week if its wants, and I will be quite happy to see it.
In other news, this person turned 3 months today. She grabs toys and chews them, coos and babbles, and generally lights up my life. Oh, and she's TOTALLY in 3-6 month sized clothing now.
So very envious of your snow. We had predictions of a snowfall, and at each nighttime feeding I'd peek out the window hopefully, though harboring great doubt. No snow for us. We've had maybe 1/8 of an inch all winter. Count me depressed and weary.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that little lady is TOTALLY adorable in her 3-6 month sized clothing :)
It is beautiful. I'm happy? for you. No, seriously, I'm glad your winter is fulfilled.
