Transit of Hatchers and Venus

This post mainly features photos of our outing to the Transit of Venus viewing party. Our good friends the Hatchers stayed the night  visit, lasting only about 15 hours, was spent mainly in managing tinies and then doing some serious catching up! since we haven't seen them since last JUNE when they announced their pregnancy with #2.

I did manage to snap a couple shots of Josh double-babying, though. Baby August is 3 months old and SO sweet! And so small... I'd forgotten how much difference 3 months has made for Adele.

We had a lovely visit, though it was far too short to feel properly caught up! As with so many of our old friends, we can only hope our paths cross again soon.

On Tuesday the 5th we recklessly postponed bedtime by a couple of hours in order to try to witness the Transit of Venus. Jon and Lissa and the Transit of Venus go way back, all the way to undergraduate Astronomy and Cosmology. The historical/scientific significance of the transit is profound, and is a reminder to us of God's grandeur and of man's determination to know.  Because of the once-in-a-lifetime nature of the event, we thought it worth throwing off bedtime by a couple of hours.

We love Blacksburg for how many people turn out to a Transit of Venus viewing party on a cloudy evening!
This professor was kind enough to demonstrate his telescope and allow the children to look through it.

Miles had a look, but since it remained quite cloudy and there was not very much to be seen, he passed most of the evening frolicking.

Adele wonders what on earth all this is for and when we are going to return her to her crib.

I love this one because of the attempted strangulation going on. What??

At one point it looked like the sun was going to break through! Miles says "There it is! Sun! SUN!"
Sadly, this is about as much as we saw of her.
A lovely evening notwithstanding. And at least we can say we turned out for it. We must hope for clearer skies for when we're all 100+ years old.
