Memorial Day Weekend

I had completely forgotten about Memorial Day. Or, when it crossed my mind, I assumed I would have to work, as I do on Labor Day. So it was a real holiday, a gift, and not a vacation I had previously filled with plans and expectations for how I would most usefully dispose of time off work. I got to just hang out with my family. Bonus.

On Saturday, we went to Aviation Day! (Yes the Blacksburg calender of fun continues to churn out free stuff for us to attend. I don't know how either). This means that I went to Blacksburg's TINY yet "Executive" Airport for the first time. It's pretty well hidden; I had a job finding it!

But, obviously, we had to take M. to go and see the planes. When I was a little girl, I would have died of boredom at this event, but I'm now able to take a reasonable amount of interest in vehicles, inspired mainly by my son's enthusiasm.

I suppose they are pretty.

This was his first time on or near a plane!

He. was. so. excited.

Doesn't he look ready to conquer?

THEY LET HIM TOUCH THE CONTROLS!

Why was this allowed? We're not sure, but we went with it!

Miles tried to focus on what the pilots and others were presenting about, but it was easier just to color. He is not yet 3, after all.

They had a pretty sweet station where you could built a rocket from paper and launch it with an air compressor thingy. Look, I'll show you:

He is getting over his fear of the Hokie Bird, as some of you will be glad to know.

And, lest you think we left our daughter at home:

She is one happy six month old, these days.

On Monday we went out to the Mill Mountain Zoo, almost a year from our becoming members there. It was good to catch up with some of our favorite critters. Also, to replace Miles' cheap-o animal themed sunglasses. Which we've since promptly broken. Oh well! We'll be back before long!

Back on the Zoo-Choo again... he's sad because he has to get off now.
Adele's already on her second visit. She's jaded.
I find the tiger sequence delightful so HERE!

Finally the shot we wanted and neither kid is smiling. Oh well.
Coming up.... I turn 30 (EEP) and we have highly anticipated house guests!
